An Unexpected Find: Book 1 in the Silver Falls Series by Hayleigh Sol is very much what it purports to be in the title – sweet and steamy. Jackson Rowland is a successful mid-range author whose early work has drawn praise and success from critics and fans alike. With his agent now pushing Jax to broaden his literary pen and have his action-hero interact with women to appeal more to a female readership base, Jackson is a little lost and unsure if he can write in a style that would suit the feminine outlook. At his agent’s behest, he visits the local library and begins reading the latest offering from a female author. Unwittingly, he leaves the notes he made on his current love scene, for his new novel, on pad paper inside the library book. When Sophie Grimaldi, a successful dentist with her own practice and a passion for reading, checks out the library book and finds Jax’s notes, she is suitably unimpressed with his efforts and in her own inimitable style rewrites part of the scene Jax has written, on his notepaper. After Jax manages to recover his notes from the returned library book, he is intrigued and impressed to find Sophie’s rewrite of his scene in the back of the book. Impressed by her effort, he is determined to track down the author and perhaps even employ her as a consultant on his latest novel. Both Sophie and Jax have had disastrous relationships in the past and neither is certain they are looking for another one right now but the attraction, albeit through the internet, is obvious and insistent – should they answer its call? So begins the oddest of relationships, conducted via messaging and emails.

An Unexpected Find was a decidedly satisfying read. Author Hayleigh Sol has taken the most unlikely of scenarios and made it believable, which is a testament to her writing ability. This twist on the “internet date” phenomenon was fascinating and the two characters, Sophie and Jax, were both believable and equally vulnerable in their own ways. It was easy to find oneself rooting for one, or the other, at various times during the read and equally finding yourself cringing at some of their decisions or actions. This type of reader involvement in the story and the characters is always the sign of a talented author and undoubtedly Sol is that. For the lovers of erotica, there is enough steamy stuff in this story to keep you well interested and what I particularly liked was that the love scenes were written in such a way to be integral to the story and not merely smut for smut’s sake. They are hot, steamy, and exciting. Sophie, as a character, was fascinating and I particularly enjoyed her conversations on love and life with her mother and also with her best friend, Rachel. Although she felt she had this whole life thing pretty well figured out, it was also clear Sophie knew there was more to life than just career and interests. Deep down she knew she really was looking for someone to share it all with, even if sometimes she was too scared or too pig-headed to admit it. The 'will-they/won’t-they' aspect of the story kept me totally engaged the whole way through. This was a fascinating premise and a book I found unable to put down. I can highly recommend it.

Sophie had been eagerly awaiting the next romance book from her favorite author for so long. Content with her single life, she was happy to get her injection of romance this way. What she wasn't expecting was for the book to present an opportunity for something more. Someone had read it before her, leaving something inside she couldn't help but cringe at. A sex scene, possibly the worst ever written. Her pen was flying across the paper before she even knew what was happening. It was her way of venting, her way of explaining everything that was wrong with the brief dispassionate fumble. She hadn't meant to put it back in the book, nor expect the author to track her down seeking further insights. Both had been hurt, their view of love and romance jaded, but will working together help them heal? Could they find something more, something worth being written about, or will they protect themselves and their hearts?

Hayleigh Sol's An Unexpected Find is a sweet romance between the lead characters Jax and Sophie. I loved the unique approach to this romance and the 'will they/won't they' hook that progresses throughout. The book itself is more centered around the building of a relationship than the typical romance read, whereas the injections of hot and steamy come through their writing and the occasional reaction to things they have sent each other. The characters' vulnerabilities and insecurities play a huge role in this book as they form an amazing friendship, scared to take it to something more. I really enjoyed how their paths never seemed to cross, neither knowing what the other looked like as they worked, respecting each other's privacy. Humour, passion, insecurities, fear, and friendship are central to this plot, and its engaging third person that shifts between Jax's and Sophie's perspectives is seamless and engaging.

Sophie Grimaldi is a highly successful dentist who loves reading. After getting hurt in her previous relationships, she has finally given up on love. Jax Rowland is a bestselling author who lacks proficiency in writing intimate scenes. When Sophie accidentally finds his poorly written draft of such a scene in one of her library books, she feels compelled to point out the fallacies and amend the scene. After discovering the corrected version, Jax immediately contacts Sophie and hires her to ghostwrite the love scenes. When they find they have a lot in common, can they stop falling for each other, especially with the steamy scenes acting as fuel? Read Hayleigh Sol’s An Unexpected Find to discover what happens when nothing goes according to plan.

What can be better than a budding romance between a celebrated author and an avid bibliophile? In An Unexpected Find, Hayleigh Sol develops sweet and adorable chemistry between Sophie and Jax. I loved that the relationship was not overly mushy; instead, both faced several issues such as insecurity and doubts. Their dilemma made the story realistic and the conclusion unpredictable. Besides, I liked the bonds they both shared with their best friends and family. Their support is what saw them through the tough times. Sol’s masterful placement of the steamy scenes kept them romantic and not erotic. All in all, this book is a light-hearted, feel-good read that will help you relax after a long and weary day. I wholeheartedly recommend it to lovers of romance.
