In The Legacy of the Key, the first book in the Ancient Guardians series, by S.L. Morgan, Reece Bryant and Levi Oxley are from two different worlds…literally. Reece may seem like your average human from Earth until she meets Levi, who introduces her to the beautiful land he is from and makes her realize that she is more special than she ever realized, in more ways than one. Not only does she learn about the different worlds and dimensions she never knew existed, but she also soon falls in love with Levi, a Pemdas Guardian and the son of the emperor. Levi has duties to protect not only his world but Earth as well. However, his growing love for Reece complicates things as their enemies, whose complete focus is on capturing Reece, begin to make their move.

There are two words to describe this book: ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. It is very difficult to put into words how much I enjoyed it. The concept of the different worlds and dimensions among us was unique and very intriguing; it immediately had me hooked. Also, the pacing was perfect; the plot wasn’t rushed at all and it wasn’t slow either. Reece and Levi’s relationship gradually grew, which made it completely realistic, and this brings me to my next point. Only a brilliant writer can have a reader utterly engaged in and captivated by a book to the point where the real world is shut out and all that exists are the fictional characters and their world, which is exactly what happened to me. I felt as if I was right there alongside Reece and experiencing everything she felt and went through. I hopelessly fell in love with Levi as Reece did, which doesn’t happen very often. Their relationship was so heart-warming and touching that I was disappointed to see the book end, but also ecstatic to continue reading the series. A combination of romance, suspense, fantasy, and sci-fi, The Legacy of the Key is exciting, adventurous, romantic, and is certainly a must-read. It is definitely the best book I have read in a long time. S.L. Morgan is an extremely talented storyteller and she has become my new favorite author. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a sequel to read.

Thank you Kim for taking the time to read and review, The Legacy of the Key! I love living in the dimension as well! It was exciting to bring readers back in the second book in the series.
I agree, definitely a book to wrap up in a blanket in, next to a crackling, warm fireplace while sipping on a hot cup of tea! ;-)

Ancient Guardians: The Legacy of the Key (Ancient Guardian Series, Book 1 by S.L. Morgan is the story of Reece, a young woman who is looking for the sense in her life, as we all do at some stage or the other. But, unlike Reece, we usually don't get taken to another dimension (though living in the world of this book does sound tempting). Reece is some sort of key - though she does not know this - and a race from another dimension wants her because the key can help them to rule all other dimensions. The guardians of the key, however, cannot let this happen, so they take Reece into their own world to protect her. But of course, it's not that easy and being in a different dimension not only takes some getting used to, but also has its own dangers.

While Ancient Guardians isn't the kind of book that makes you sit on the edge of your seat or keeps you awake until you arrive at the last page, it is a book that keeps you motivated. It didn't take me more than a few days to finish it - but I did not feel like I had to rush it. I could simply enjoy the fantastic world and Reece's journey. It's more like a "feel at home in the world" book than a book you rush through just to know what's happening. It's definitely an enjoyable read with likable and detestable characters.

Reece is your typical college student, dealing with classes and, unfortunately, her father's passing. At least that is what she thinks anyway. She is heading to San Diego to finish up things with her father's estate when she notices two handsome young men at the airport, and then they are on her plane, which ends up having trouble and returning to Philadelphia. She later notices them again while out with friends, and while on a run they save her from being abducted. It turns out they are her Guardians and she is someone called The Key. Now she must understand that there are dimensions and worlds other than her own, all while hiding for her own safety. Ancient Guardians is a young adult tale of character and honesty. S. L. Morgan takes fantasy and morals and creates a wonderfully captivating romance between a young girl called the Key and her Guardian.

Ancient Guardians: The Legacy of the Key is the beginning of a new series, and it is a strong start to the series. It lays a good foundation for more to come. The Guardians are shown to be strong, yet morally upright and with good values, which is why they were originally chosen as the Guardians in the first place. Greed and power are the opposite and are shown to get in the way of life and what is really important. This fantasy novel is set in multiple dimensions, which is a fun concept to think about, with Earth being the central focus of the dimensions. Although there is some fighting, the crux of the story is the romance between the Key, Reece, and her guardian, Levi. This is a great young adult and teen novel in that the romance is also woven in with a moral message of honesty, trust and doing the right thing. This novel will also appeal to older readers and, given that it is very clean, even mature younger readers would do well with the novel.

Ancient Guardians: The Legacy of the Key is the first volume of the Ancient Guardians series by S.L. Morgan. It is a story about Reece Bryant, who lost her father due to a heart attack. She pursues her medical degree at Temple University, Philadelphia, after his death. After her fall semester exams, Reece flies back to San Diego to settle her father’s estate. Something strange happens during her flight and the plane has to return to Philadelphia as the pilot announces some sort of malfunction.

What's more, two strange young men seem to follow her around. Levi, one of the strange men, rescues Reece from a planned kidnapping. He introduces her to the other man, his cousin Harrison, who reveals to Reece the existence of another dimension, Pemdas. Reece then finds out that she is The Key, and the safety of Earth and other dimensions rests on her shoulders. All these strange events that happen to Reece in the beginning chapters held my interest. Entertaining from start to finish, the world-building is fantastic, particularly Pemdas, as Morgan blends fantasy with a somewhat advanced 18 to 19th century England’s surrounding.

This book is definitely a worthy read. Layered with drama, romance, adventure and even sci-fi, there are many elements to attract fans of different genres. Reece is a smart and determined female lead, which I appreciate very much. Simply put, Ancient Guardians is definitely an exciting series to follow and The Legacy of the Key is a commendable work from S.L. Morgan.

After losing her father, Reece Bryant's life was shattered and the only thing she had to live for was the attainment of her medical degree at Temple University. Her life, however, took a very interesting turn when she was saved from a kidnapping attempt. The two strangers who saved her then whisked her away to safety and, before she could even tell what was happening, she had left Earth and entered another world called Pemdas; a beautiful place beyond anything she had ever seen. Life in Pemdas was both strange and exciting for Reece and it was like travelling back to an ancient period where people used horse-drawn wagons and women wore extravagant gowns with corsets. Reece was not in Pemdas for vacation, she was there because, apparently, in her brain lay a secret so profound it had the power to control the world. People from another world would do anything to get their hands on it. As if her life was not complicated enough, she fell in love with Levi, heir to the most powerful chair in Pemdas, and her Guardian, who by virtue of his position would be expected to marry royal blood from his own world.

Ancient Guardians: The Legacy of the Key by S.L. Morgan is an enchanting novel with a flawless plot, breathtakingly vivid scenery and characters that so completely come to life and are relatable. The story took me from this world and transported me to a different time and to a place so beautiful and magnificent I sometimes needed a moment to pause and just take in the breathtaking scenery described therein. S.L. Morgan's writing style did justice to the plot by vividly describing the amazing beauty of the place and bringing to life the exciting characters. I could literally picture the ladies of the palace in their beautiful gowns. Ancient Guardians: The Legacy of the Key is a definite page-turner with a perfect mixture of science fiction, action, romance and historical style.

Ancient Guardians: The Legacy of the Key (Ancient Guardian Series, Book 1) (Volume 1) by S.L. Morgan is a romantic and fantasy novel that caters to readers above the age group of 13. Reece Bryant lives a normal life on Earth. But then her enemies find out about her and she has to be taken away from Earth to protect her. The story happens in two different dimensions with the author creating a whimsical dimension called Pemdas. There Reece tries to believe that she is the key person to bring about a sort of balance and equality to the other dimensions.

A great mix of reality and fantasy; the theme is original and full of suspense, adventure, drama and excitement. The character of Reece Bryant is that of a typical teen girl who is interested in boys, and she is smart. Both the boys - Harrison and Levi - provide the romantic angle in the theme. I liked the concept of time travel between the dimensions. The description of Pemdas is beautiful and vivid. There is an element of mystery and whimsy that surrounds the story and makes it an excellent read. It has a futuristic theme which will fascinate readers and the plot has a little bit of everything, making it an entertaining science fiction.

The book is fast paced and will take readers to another dimension altogether. It is a great roller coaster ride with fantasy, science fiction, mystery, romance, action, suspense and a new dimension all woven together.
