Asylum of Diction by Alyssa Milani is a riveting anthology of horror stories that center on themes that include love, loss, purpose, and life. Each one is different and cleverly written, exploring parts of the human psyche that will cause the reader to ponder the story long after they have finished reading it. Each character can stand on their own two feet as a whole person who feels real to the reader because of the way the author skillfully weaves in their inner motivations, past traumas, and deeply hidden fears. Her writing style is potent. The stories begin in the middle of the action, which moves forward at a fast pace and with hidden clues beautifully placed along the way, drawing the reader’s curiosity and focus.

Asylum of Diction by Alyssa Milani is brilliant. Each story reads like a movie with just the right amount of action, suspense, and thrills. I could not put this book down and read it straight through to the end. What a fascinating deep dive into the human character and vices this book contains. Each story explores a raw part of humanity and reveals the author’s uncanny ability to understand human nature and push the limits of exploration into the human mind and soul. Really powerful writing. I especially enjoyed this author’s pacing. Her ability to take the reader through the ups and downs of her plots in such a short time was well-planned and executed. Fans of great writing, horror, and thrillers will love this book.
