Babushka loves to tell her grandson, Janoush, bedtime stories. She is a very seasoned storyteller and each story she tells has a lesson, a moral, to share. There is the story of the ladybug and the daisy and the mean boy set on destroying everything in his path; there is the story of the pebble who wants to be able to move about the water and see everything there is to see; and there is the story of the little girl who told a lie that hurt her parents and made the weather turn cold and rainy. Each story imparts a little bit of wisdom and, perhaps too, a little bit of Babushka’s life. She is, after all, a storyteller and her life is a story.

Katharine Teisseire and Mariana Andrusyshyn’s collection of three unique children’s stories, Babushka’s Tales, is a classic set of fairytales, aimed to entertain and educate all at the same time. The lessons imparted include valuable lessons for present-day children: lessons about bullying, caring for the environment, being satisfied with who and where you are, and the importance of never telling a lie. Although written for children, with superb and vivid pencil drawings to illustrate each story, these tales appeal to the young at heart of all ages. The author and the artist have created a masterpiece in the style and never-ending charm of Hans Christian Andersen. These are stories that will be shared countless times as their message lives on for eternity. A pleasure to read, a pleasure to share.
