Do you know the difference between how grasshoppers and crickets make sounds? You will, after reading Backyard Bug Safari by Barbara Teasdale. Many children don’t know how many different types of bugs live in their backyards. Barbara puts the fun into learning. Two brothers, Freddy and Bradly, go bug hunting for Freddy’s school project. Bradly learns many things from his older brother. Did you know grasshoppers are the only bugs that can walk, hop, and fly? All insects have two things in common: six legs and two antennae. Reading this book will give your child a great introduction to studying insects. Your children will also enjoy the two activities at the end of the book. I highly recommend this book for your child. Stick insects look like sticks, but do you know why? This book will tell you.

I am so excited to see books that teach children while having fun. I think that is the best way to learn. When I taught, I always tried to make the lessons fun. Barbara Teasdale wrote Backyard Bug Safari with the enjoyment of education in mind. As a parent, you may want to help your child read this book and help them understand new words such as entomology, pollinate, and metamorphosis. After reading this book, I suggest you organize a backyard bug safari with your child and see how many different types of insects live on your property. Natalia Logvanova makes this little book even more delightful with her drawings of the various insects. Learning about insects can also help children not be afraid of them. This is the best book for children on insects I have ever seen. I used to teach biology and wish my students had had the opportunity to read this book when they were younger.

Backyard Bug Safari is a children's adventure book by Barbara Teasdale with some beautifully drawn illustrations. This colorful picture book follows the story of brothers Freddy and Bradley. Freddy must find eleven insects for his entomology project in school. He asks his younger brother Bradley to help him find his net, three big boxes, and two magnifying glasses. Freddy is supposed to collect eleven insects (bugs) for his entomology project due at school the next day. The bugs are needed alive. Freddy sets out on a safari to find bugs. Young Bradley has never been on a bug safari before and is excited to join Freddy. Bradley sees a lot of bugs and can’t help but ask Freddy every question he can think of. Like, why do ants march in a row? How can they carry stuff that is bigger than they are? Why do grasshoppers make a clicking sound? Why doesn’t honey drip out from a bee hive? What do bugs use antennae for? There are a lot more questions. Get yourself Barbara Teasdale’s Backyard Bug Safari to discover all the interesting facts Bradley learns from Freddy.

Lovers of children's concept books with a touch of adventure will find Barbara Teasdale’s Backyard Bug Safari an engrossing read. If your child is a science enthusiast, this might just be what they need to get started on biological concepts. The author blends the text with the beautiful images wonderfully, allowing children to interpret the text through the images. While this encourages them to learn the meaning of different words quickly, it also serves to satisfy their imagination. Through Bradley’s playful, yet naïve and innocent voice and Freddy’s educative answers, readers will learn a lot about insects. One fact that I found interesting was about the bees. Did you know bees die after stinging? There is adventure, humor, and thrills in this enthralling read.

Most people reach for the bug spray the moment they see an insect, but in Backyard Bug Safari by Barbara Teasdale, we learn how insects are an important part of life and our world. Freddy takes his little brother Bradley on a fun adventure outdoors to learn about all the different kinds of insects and what they do. It turns out insects play a big part in our lives, like how bees make honey, and who doesn’t love pets?

Backyard Bug Safari by Barbara Teasdale is a fun, educational book with adventure and interesting bug facts. The bright and colorful illustrations done by Natalia Logvanova help to bring the book to life with the added benefit of holding the attention of any child. Backyard Bug Safari has so much to offer in STEM education while also serving the additional purpose of helping some kids overcome their fear of bugs. Whether the author intended this, I think a book like this could fulfill more than one purpose. Focusing on all the positive and interesting aspects of various insects would allow a child to learn some interesting facts and see insects in an entirely new and more positive light. The book is well written, and while there are some mighty big words here and there, I think it just adds to the learning fun. Children tend to enjoy having something to show off to their peers, and what's better than a word that others can’t even pronounce? Teasdale did a great job with this book, and I think it deserves to be read.
