C. D. Hamilton’s Blind Expectations is a story of life lessons. Peter Webb had always worked hard to earn anything he had. This ethic in his academics had paid off when he received a scholarship to Stepney Green College. The school was expensive but had an excellent reputation, and Pete was graduating in two months. After two brief relationships made him depressed, his friends were there for him. Corrine was someone who always had the brilliant advice he valued. Todd introduced Pete to his crush, Brandi. The pair enjoyed an afternoon together, and Pete asked for another date. Pete wasn’t from a rich family. Brandi overlooks the barrier and says she would enjoy seeing him again. Pete receives a call from Brandi, canceling their dinner date because she is sick. Pete makes a care package for her and drops it off at her door and heads to Todd’s dorm. Just outside Todd’s door, Pete recognizes a girl’s voice inside.

Pete’s personality resonates with me. His background is almost identical to mine, and I have always worked for everything I have achieved. The devastation he felt when others looked down at him because his family wasn’t rich had me angry and defensive, like Corrine was. The vivid depiction of every character’s personality was exceptional. C. D. Hamilton balanced each person with strengths and flaws. I had to laugh out loud at Pete’s Aunt Rae’s outlandish outfits. The story flow and realistic events made every moment relatable to me. The suspense of the direction Pete’s life would take intensifies with the supporting character interactions. I found the conclusion of the story somewhat predictable but I would recommend Blind Expectations to readers of slow-burn romances filled with characters whose development they appreciate.
