Blood Sisters by Audrey Star is the first book in the Shady Pines Cozy Vampire Mystery series. Quinn Clearwater adores her job as an art teacher, but as she nears the end of her ten years at the school, she knows she’ll soon have to look for a change. The Board has specific rules for vampires, which means they can only stay in one place for under ten years. She discovers she’s inherited a house from her mother whom she hadn’t seen in years. After moving to the town of Shady Pines, Quinn makes an even greater discovery when she meets a half-sister she never knew existed. She’s quickly drawn into the town where she finds a place for her own artistic soul among the other quirky sorts living there, but the warm welcome is short-lived when Quinn stumbles upon a dead body. When the police don’t seem to agree with her assessment, she decides to take the case on herself and, with her sister at her side, no way it can possibly go wrong.

This delightful read puts a twist on mysteries through a different take on vampires while containing the same lightheartedness and quirky humor notable for cozies. Quinn is an appealing character that puts a charming twist on the stereotypical approach to vampires through a bubbly, quirky, and utterly normal life. Audrey Star breathes life into a unique and lighthearted world where vampires live by a set of strict rules that have them continuously moving locations but ultimately living a normal life. As she works to find her place in the town and with her family, Quinn stumbles into a murder mystery that no one seems to believe her about, except her new sister. The two work together to uncover clues and find suspects which make for several delightful sisters' sleuthing moments and suspenseful turns as they look for a killer. As Quinn gets to know the town, she meets a variety of characters that become both suspects and friends. She even meets a possible love interest when she meets the handsome local art teacher, which provides giddy and comedic moments. Blood Sisters is the ideal read for those who love cozy mysteries and lighthearted tales about vampires, murder, family, and the bond of sisters.
