Book of Leprechauns starts with a brief history of lore gatherers (leprechauns) who originated in Ireland. Dorn, a leprechaun gone bad, lives deep in the Irish forest. Dorn was once the most powerful leprechaun because he had the gift of magic and knew how to master it. Now the magic is gone, and Dorn wants revenge. Shaun McClanahan and his daughter Molly live in the village of Finnegan’s Wake. They're preparing to go to The Thieving, a ritual all twelve-year-olds have to participate in. This ritual is performed because humans are too hungry for gold and power. The most sacred responsibility of leprechauns is to safeguard their gold. Humans are a leprechaun’s most dangerous predator. When a human catches a leprechaun, he is compelled to grant the human three wishes. Now Molly must prove her ability to hide and find gold without using magic. Will Molly pass The Thieving? Find out in Book of Leprechauns: The Lore Gatherers by Jonathan Uffelman.

Anyone looking to escape reality with a heart-warming, magical adventure, shattering turns, and nail-biting action, should get lost in Jonathan Uffelman's marvelous world. I adore Uffelman's writing so much. Book of Leprechauns is filled with magic, gold, time travel, portals, lurking danger, and an amazing, unique group of characters. This epic adventure that takes you back through time to ancient Rome is utterly entrancing. It's a powerful book for all young readers. It's about redemption, bonding, trust, blame, betrayal, empathy, love, and a remarkable young heroine to look up to and admire. Fantasy at its best as it teaches you to see beyond what people tell you while introducing you to a poetry-writing fox, a hyper-intelligent chicken, and even Julius Caesar, the Emperor of Rome.
