Boy Who Watches/ Brother Devil by Michael Naliborski contains two short stories with some beautifully drawn illustrations by Robin Adams. Boy Who Watches follows a young boy with the responsibility of being a scout on the lookout for the enemies of his tribe. When an unexpected attack on his village leaves the chief dead, the chief's son Sityaki becomes the new leader, and soon, the Boy Who Watches finds himself banished from his own tribe. What follows is his journey as he makes a name for himself and comes back to claim his rightful place. Brother Devil is the story of young John and his foster brother, the Devil (Dev), who find themselves on the run as their psychopathic Grandpa Kelso chases them with murder on his mind. Will the two brothers find peace and a home to call their own?

If you're a fan of westerns or action-packed survival stories, Boy Who Watches/ Brother Devil is just what you're looking for. Author Michael Naliborski tells two captivating coming-of-age tales where the protagonists go through enormous trials and tribulations to discover who they are and what they want to be. The narrative moves at a brisk pace, and the plots are completely unpredictable. Fantastical elements aside, there is a human touch to the characters that makes them all the more compelling to read. I particularly enjoyed the dynamic between the brothers, John and Dev. Overall, I enjoyed both stories and recommend the book to readers who enjoy westerns and action-packed narratives.
