Braidy von Althuis and the Dastardly Djinn is the third book in a series that Cassidy Dwelis dedicates to Braidy, a ten-year-old boy, and his adventures. After two eventful books, the new one starts when Braidy and his cousin, Blockhead, find a Djinn in their house. The Djinn can only grant one wish, and Braidy uses it to do a good deed and help Blockhead get rid of his curse and live a happy life. Although the Djinn immediately frees Blockhead from his curse, not all goes smoothly for the two cousins. What is in store for them?
Cassidy Dwelis has written a book where you definitely never get bored and where the story becomes more and more enthralling while you read it. All the ingredients that appeal to a young reader are present in Braidy von Althuis and the Dastardly Djinn, including magic, a series of unpredictable events, and action. Nonetheless, there are also valuable lessons that help children understand the importance of some issues. For example, from the very beginning, Dwelis shows how necessary it is to be accountable for your actions, as it happens to Braidy after he takes the rash decision to make a wish. It also demonstrates how important it is to be true to yourself, as illustrated by Blockhead's vicissitudes. Overall, I read Braidy von Althuis and the Dastardly Djinn with pleasure, and I can imagine how much a child reader will enjoy it. It is a good chance for them to meet amazing characters that they will consider their new friends.
