Jon M Nelson has one distinct message that he wants readers of Brightness from the Shadows to get: we are all part of the human race. No man is lesser or greater and therefore what we can infer from this is that the wars we wage and the social limits we place on some are pointless. The author here believes world peace is an attainable goal if we can only educate the world to see that everyone in the end is the same. Through poetry, Nelson seeks to be the beacon of reason and change that the world so desperately needs and desires.

I love seeing someone put their natural gift of poetry to good use. Too many collections are mopey, depressed complaints from poets who think they have been wronged by life. Jon M Nelson gives a no nonsense pondering about why the world is in so much turmoil over a problem that shouldn't even exist. I rated this four stars because I found that the entire piece seemed to have a similar rhyming scheme throughout, and I would have loved to have seen more variation to further display the author's talent.

Brightness from the Shadows is perfect for thinkers and philosophers, and even those who want to feel that someone other than themselves believes peace is possible. Many readers may feel overburdened by the length of this work, but, overall, it's a good book. Some editing could really trim this down and make it more accessible to casual poetry readers. This is, in the end, a very opinion based piece that some will like and some will hate. I liked it and I hope you will too.
