Brigor & Thandril: Skeleton Trouble is a work of fiction in the fantasy adventure subgenre. It is intended for young readers aged 7 to 9 years old and was penned by author Ian Blackthorne. In this exciting and lovingly crafted chapter book, young readers can gain a wonderful introduction to the high fantasy subgenre by following the adventures of a dwarf and a forest elf as they encounter the many mysteries and dangers of the wider world around them. A horde of green-eyed skeletons is attacking just one house in town, and Brigor and Thandril must discover the reasons why, but the skeletons may not be the only monsters they face along the way.

Author Ian Blackthorne has a clear passion for the high fantasy subgenre, and that enthusiasm for the richness of worldbuilding and the camaraderie between characters comes through beautifully in this well-penned and well-paced chapter book. I could easily see this book becoming a classroom favorite for group reading times and the kind of tale a child could lose themselves in for hours at home. Brigor and Thandril are both highly relatable heroes with a lot of mysteries to puzzle out and some great messages about courage and teamwork. Their archetypes also teach kids about the way fantasy fiction works and will certainly engage them in the sword and sorcery world all the more. Overall, I would highly recommend Brigor & Thandril: Skeleton Trouble for young readers, their teachers, family, and guardians alike. A must-read for newcomers to fantasy everywhere.
