Author Biography

Rick Moskovitz is a Harvard educated psychiatrist who taught psychotherapy and spent nearly four decades listening to his patients tell their stories. After leaving practice, he in turn became a storyteller, writing science fiction that explores the psychological consequences of living in a world of expanding possibilities, including even the prospect of evading death. His characters deal with enduring moral and emotional struggles against a backdrop of a near future world that is still dealing with environmental crises as it navigates the intersection of human and artificial intelligence.

The question of aging, mind transfer, DNA modification, and complex personalities are among the elements that give this narrative uniqueness and originality and feed the conflict that moves the narrative forward. Petra Kresky suddenly finds herself in a consciousness that isn’t hers, surrounded by people who mistake her for someone else. But there is worse; she is a suspect in her husband’s death. Terra awakens within Petra’s body, but can she journey back to who she once was? Can Petra develop a personality that finds meaning in her current circumstances? Her experience, painful as it may be, results from a government organization that wants to redefine power. But there is a vigilante group that will stop at nothing to see this top secret government organization destroyed. But what happens to those caught in the crossfire?

Brink of Life by Rick Moskovitz is a beautiful meld of science fiction and paranormal, a story with sophisticated characters and a strong plot. I enjoyed the compelling cast of characters, especially Petra and Terra, the intelligent teenage character Natasha Takana, Delilah, and Abraham. It’s easy to connect emotionally with Rick Moskovitz’s characters. Each character’s role is very well defined in the story. I got absorbed in following Natasha and her work involving the manipulating of DNA and mind transfer. The narrative is done in an exciting and confident tone, with crisp and beautiful prose punctuated with engaging and plot-driven dialogues. The complexity in plot and character will appeal to fans of this genre. I found Brink of Life to be original, well written, and entertaining.
