Broken Strings by Nancy Means Wright is a murder mystery. Faye Hubbard and Marion are friends and puppeteers together. During a show, Marion collapses and Fay determines that she will continue the puppet show. But she already has foster children to look after, and her goats. Her children are proving to be more than a handful and Fay’s husband has decided that he is no longer interested in puppets or Fay. Instead, he has his eye on a young and gorgeous French teacher. If that weren’t enough, a strange Skull man warns Fay that if she continues the puppet shows with Marion’s odd endings, the result will be death – another one. An autopsy shows that Marion was given a deadly dose of crushed yew and another friend discovers her sister hanging like a puppet, leaving Fay no choice but to find out who the killer is herself.

Broken Strings by Nancy Means Wright was a real page-turner. It was one of those stories where you think you’ve guessed who the culprit is and then something happens to prove you wrong. Ms Wright has written a story that really draws a reader in, makes you a part of it, a friend of the characters, and the tale has plenty of humor in it as well. The characters are well written, the story has definitely been thought out very well and it all comes together in a smooth-running, gripping story that has you on the edge of your seat until the end. I do hope there will be a sequel to this!
