Susan Renni Anderson grew up in traditional Jewish family. Her great-grandparents came to the United States from Eastern Europe fleeing the pogroms – horrific outbreaks of violence against the Jews. Her great-grandmother was the daughter of an outspoken rabbi. The whole family was whisked out of Russia to avoid capture and execution. Her grandparents were all born in the U.S. settling in Chicago. Susan started Sunday school at 3 years old. She attended Hebrew school from 4th through 9th grade training for her Bat Mitzvah.
After she retired, Susan felt inspired to explore more deeply her interest in Jesus Christ and Messianic prophecy in the Old Testament. In 2013, Susan began a faith-journey which led her to her church. She felt a tug of war going on in her soul. Susan knows with complete certainty that it was the Holy Spirit pulling her to Christ.

Too many Christians have either forgotten or never knew the close relationship between the Jewish and the Christian faiths. Susan Renni Anderson has authored Christianity’s Jewish Roots to correct this situation. In this book, Susan shows the similarities and the differences between the two great monotheistic faiths. Growing up in a Jewish family gives Susan a unique perspective on how Christianity grew out of Judaism, and her firsthand information is invaluable. If you want to understand the history of Christianity better and develop a better grasp of the meaning of the Old Testament, this book is a must-read. Susan explains concepts that are foreign to the modern reader. Even though I have studied the Bible for over 60 years and have a master’s degree in divinity, I learned many things from this book.
Move over Alfred Edersheim because there’s a new Jewish convert and Bible scholar in print. Susan Renni Anderson draws on her Jewish heritage to explain the Jewish roots of Christianity in her book Christianity’s Jewish Roots. While Edersheim wrote in the mid-nineteenth century to academics, Susan writes to today’s Christians in an easy-to-understand manner for the non-scholar. Susan’s style of writing is down-to-earth and easy to understand. Her information is easy to process and will fill your mind with excellent knowledge. The Jewish background to Christianity comes alive for you on every detailed page. While this book genre could quickly become boring, Susan has taken pains to make sure the text is alive and exciting. As a minister for over 40 years, I highly recommend this book to all Christians, new and old.
