In Claire, Departed, a murder mystery by K. Bradley, Emma Barnes, a retired school teacher and author, was found dead on her patio next to the swimming pool. After Emma retired from teaching, she spent more time writing and joined the writers’ group, Mills Quills, consisting of herself, Margot, Karlie, and Sam. Harry, Emma’s husband, wanted Karlie and Sam to sift through Emma’s notes and thumb drives and see if they could finish some of Emma’s work. Karlie started with the story of Claire Margaret Brennan, who was born in Dublin in 1960. Claire’s story captivated Karlie right away. Karlie spends a lot of time on the story and begins to wonder if it could be true. Karlie researches some of the characters and realizes that there is more to Claire's story than meets the eye.

Claire, Departed by K. Bradley was full of mystery, action, and intrigue. I was hooked from the start and was guessing until the end. It was fast-paced, and before I discovered the truth, the twists and turns led me down numerous paths. The writing style was excellent and descriptive, and it was easy to become a part of the drama. The story alternated between Karlie and Claire, and later I could not decide whose story was the most interesting. The characters, especially Karlie, were well-developed, and I found it impossible not to like them. Karlie changed from being a reserved individual to a confident one who expressed her opinions to others. This was a well-written and captivating story that had me interested all the way through. The ending was shocking and unexpected; I did not see it coming.
