Clearmoor Mysteries: A Morrigan's Hotel Spin-Off Series brings us back to the dark and gloomy setting first introduced in Morrigan's Hotel. If you have not read the latter, I suggest starting with it. It is not strictly necessary as you will still understand this book, but you will miss some enlightening clues. In this chilling short story, Amy Louise Hill revisits the topic of the acidic rain virus. The narration is in the first person, which allows a unique perspective of the disease. Through the eyes of a young girl, you learn first-hand how this unsettling infection impacts people's lives. In this book, you get answers to some of the queries which arose previously. It does, however, pose many more. Hopefully, the second part will have the answers to all of them. I know I am going to be waiting in line to read it.

If you are not into horror stories, I would not suggest reading Morrigan's Hotel. However, this does not apply to Cleamoor Mysteries. While it maintains the thrilling nature of its predecessor, it is less gory, and probably more people will enjoy it. Due to its conciseness, it gives a lot of information in just a few pages. The result is a fast-paced story you can enjoy in just a couple of hours of pleasant reading. It would seem that providing so much detail at once would be overwhelming and confusing. However, Amy Louise Hill manages to connect the intricate ideas that flow through her mind into a well-written and easily understandable storyline.
