Cowboy Pride is the story of former childhood sweethearts, Jed and Brenna. Something went down back in the day and Jed walked away from Brenna. For good. To get over her broken heart, Brenna decided to pack her bags and head to the east coast for college, but she stayed to make a dent in the art world. Eleven long years passed and in that time Jed’s sister died, leaving him with a nephew to take care of, while Brenna was left widowed and pregnant. Anne McAllister did a good job of fleshing out the backstory without turning the story into a total downer. Sure, things happened in their respective pasts, but it is part of life and the author treated it as such.

The story is well written, although the pace is a tad slow at times, but for the most part it is a good read with some good characters. The only gripe I have with Cowboy Pride is Jed. He took being stubborn to whole new heights and after a while I wondered why anyone would ever want to be with him. I just wanted there to be some romance, some instance where he started to act like an adult male instead of a caricature of a cowboy. But Brenna and Tuck were great, headstrong and independent characters, and totally unafraid to go after what they wanted. I’m always a sucker for a meddling kid and Anne McAllister created a masterpiece with young Tuck, who did a lot to get these two stubborn adults together.
