All Lola wants is to sing and dance on stage for the world to see and admire her. The only problem is that Lola was brought up in a privileged Parisian home; her father was the Minister of Finance. There were certain expectations for Lola and she didn’t feel she could fit into the society life her father had destined for her. Set on her path to becoming a star, Lola leaves the comforts and protection of her home, banished by a father who refuses to accept her choice, and enters a dangerous life of performing in places like Le Moulin Rouge. Love enters the equation and Lola’s emotions are tossed around. Always a trusting person, she trusts the wrong people. Danger lurks around every corner. Where will this life lead her? And will her father ever accept her into his life again?

Ren’e Fedyna’s historical fiction novel, Dance of the Restless Soul, follows the journey of a creative spirit who seeks to find her own way and hone her skills and talents as a singer and dancer. Set in the late nineteenth century, the story presents real historical people and places, including the famous French artist Toulouse Lautrec, and the famous Parisian landmark, Le Moulin Rouge. The plot develops slowly at first, but as conflicts intersect and complicate the protagonist, Lola, the pace picks up and the reader wants to keep reading. The characters are well developed and the setting is very realistic in both Paris and later in New Orleans, including the vibrant French nightlife of both cities. A passionate story of artistic drive, determination, and love, this story has a vibrant appeal that will attract readers of multiple genres. A great read. I loved it!
