Dead to Life is another installment of the Sara Mason Mysteries by Mary Deal. On a tour of Vietnam searching for missing persons, Sara Mason and her partner, Huxley Keane, stumble upon a long-lost key belonging to Huxley's older brother, Rocky, who went MIA in 1972. Eager to know his fate, Sara and Huxley begin a thorough investigation, picking up clues that point toward Rocky's former girlfriend, Emma Ellis. However, when Sara and Huxley interview people who used to be close to Emma, they find themselves uncovering a larger conspiracy involving drugs and human trafficking. Additionally, Huxley is beaten up to within an inch of his life while Sara is knocked unconscious and locked in a basement. They must now find the culprit behind the scenes before their lives are at risk.

With numerous twists and turns, reveals, and plenty of thrills, author Mary Deal crafts an intricate sleuth story that keeps your eyes glued to the pages from start to finish. With a fast-moving plot that moves in unexpected ways, Dead to Life is a page-turner of a novel and a blast to read. The underlying chemistry between Sara and Huxley powers the narrative thrust and forms the bedrock of the story. The characters have decent arcs and distinct personalities, but their primary function is to move the plot forward. Sara's relentless pursuit of the truth despite facing monumental obstacles was one of the primary highlights of the book. I would recommend Dead to Life to anyone who enjoys sleuth stories and mysteries.
