Deliver Us From Evil: A Prayer For Our Times is a primer about the evil in today’s world and what the response of the Christian church should be to counter it. Dr. Arnold O. Thompson writes about the evil behind the evil, explaining why so much wickedness exists in the world today. Thompson states that truth is being assaulted and that there is a sinister force behind these attacks. An especially relevant and important part of the book concerns the church needing to choose its battles more carefully. Thompson maintains that in too many instances and to its detriment, the church is fighting where it shouldn’t and not fighting where it should. He urges his readers to engage in spiritual warfare and tells them how to do so. Thompson is a long-time church pastor who holds a doctorate in theology.
Deliver Us From Evil has an important message for today’s Christian church. Arnold O. Thompson believes passionately in his cause, and this shines through on every page. He advances many powerful ideas, all biblically based, to help the church engage in the crucial battle against evil, while at the same time not expending time and effort on causes that God didn’t intend His church to become involved in. That is one of the book’s strongest points, although not everyone will agree with all of Thompson’s assertions. This book will encourage believers to reflect, pray, and crystalize their thoughts. I recommend this book to any believer who wants to make a difference while at the same time honoring the words and spirit of the Bible.
