When Lord Hamer finds the mad dwarf Kaman on a hunt, Hamer is not fazed by the statement that "any dwarf in his right mind" would kill Kaman but invites him to his castle instead. Kaman's presence is accompanied by several chaotic developments. King Maldon was unhappy with the fact that Lord Hamer is the only obstacle stopping him from ruling all of Calpathon. When Lord Hamer kidnaps King Maldon's niece to prove to him and others that he is not the despotic sorcerer he is rumored to be, the enraged king attacks Lord Hamer’s castle. Set in a world of castles, sorcery, armor-wearing, and sword-wielding soldiers, Diary of Fear by Robert A. G. Erickson promises a magical, entertaining, and mentally stimulating experience.

Robert A. G. Erickson creates an interesting mix of characters that will keep you glued to the book. These include two proud and animated leaders who find themselves locked in a power struggle, an adorable love-sick dwarf in an unfortunate situation, and a woman who fights for her independence in a highly patriarchal world. With the rumors about ghosts turning humans into pigs and other magical developments, the plot keeps you guessing. Diary of Fear includes such diverse themes as war, humor, love, murder, manipulation, magic, friendship, and writing. Readers get a busy plot that switches between multiple viewpoints, directions, goals, and armies. If you enjoy elaborate stories that are set in medieval, magical worlds, you should give this book a try.
