Did I Say Never? by Kim Nugent is a heartwarming story of raising a child with a disability, told through the eyes of his step-mother. Kim never expected to marry again, or find love with a blind date, Jesse. When Jesse proposes to Kim, he feels it is time to introduce his two sons to her. Jack is 4 years old, and he has an older brother, Brooks. Brooks is severely handicapped and living in residential care. Kim was instantly shocked at the care Brooks was receiving. This is the beginning of Kim’s brave and endless battle to provide a good education and quality of life for Brooks. Follow her unending search for the best treatments, schools and therapies. Kim never gave up, and her story will inspire any parent to continue their own personal journey and keep pushing forward until they reach their goal.

Reading this book was quite an emotional roller coaster. I admired Kim’s tenacity throughout all the hard times and obstacles; she never gave up, and never complained or felt self-pity. She made Brooks' well-being her priority and selflessly sought out every possible way to improve his standard of living. I thought the Vision For Brooks was an excellent idea, especially What is Important to Me?, What must you know to support me? and How to Communicate. When Brooks said "Mama" for the first time, it was an incredible testimony to all her hard work. The therapies and helpful tips on communication are a great resource for any parent. Kim is a true inspiration and her achievements are outstanding. This book is a well-written and detailed guide.
