Caleb is scheduled for a shot at the doctor and is afraid it will hurt. When he admits his fear to his teacher, Mrs. Christian, some students overhear him. They are very supportive and remind him that his daddy will be with him, so there is no reason to fear. Since the daycare is Christian-based, the teacher helps the children remember one of their recently studied verses. Since God is with us, there is no need to be nervous. Caleb finds faith and courage in his friends and the verse from the Bible. As your children read Caleb’s story in Don’t Be Afraid by Tiffiney Rogers-McDaniel, they will see that they do not need to be scared as long as God is with them. This practical suggestion to trust in one’s father highlights an essential spiritual truth: we can always trust in our heavenly Father.

Don’t Be Afraid by Tiffiney Rogers-McDaniel is one of the books in the fantastic children’s series Teaching Parables. These little books are beautifully illustrated and contain a biblical verse that underlines the book’s theme. Tiffiney writes so that children are drawn into the story. The topics apply to many issues that children encounter. For example, this book addresses anxiety, as seen in Caleb’s fear of receiving a shot at the doctor’s office. The courage that comes from having a loving father helps children face the most formidable opponents. This spiritual truth is often not taught in single-parent families. The concept that our heavenly Father will take care of us is still genuine, just harder for children with an absent human father to comprehend. Take time to read this book and explain how we can trust God to be with us. You will be glad you did.
