Earning It is E.F. Dodd’s second chance romance novel featuring Regan “Rae” Murphy and Donovan “Van” McLeod. Rae is the maid of honor for Kez's wedding. Rae notices that they need more champagne and goes to the kitchen to get another bottle. Jackson introduces her to his best man, Van. However, the pair didn’t need an introduction when they recognized each other. He was an undercover FBI agent and couldn’t disclose his identity since Rae worked for the man he was after. Rae discovered his identity by accident. She left without allowing Van to explain anything. As part of the wedding party, Kez and Jackson had paid for a week for Rae, Van, V, and V’s boyfriend Dave to accompany them to the Cayman Islands. Rae intends to punish Van for using her. Will Kez and Jackson regret bringing their friends on their honeymoon?

E.F. Dodd built extreme tension between Rae and Van. I was surprised how V was more perceptive and seemed to empathize with Van’s attempts to speak to Rae. I found Rae to be extremely irrational and she has an alcohol problem. I judged her to be more at fault for ending their relationship. I felt bad for Van, especially when Rae teased him incessantly and flaunted the pointless hookups she had engaged in. The transitions alternating from Rae’s view to Van’s view were exceptional. I was able to fully understand both sides of their relationship. The talent show on the island was entertaining and added to the humor. The beautiful view on Cayman Island was described in vivid detail. I could smell the salty breeze from the sea from watching the sunset. I did not expect the suspense to build toward the end of the book. This made Earning It an appealing book for readers who love romance novels with a full array of emotions on display.
