Escape from Witchwood Hollow by Jordan Elizabeth is a young adult fantasy about clinging to a love that should have faded away, despite all the tragedies one may cause. Honoria is a teenage girl whose family had died during the terrorist attack at the World Trade Center. When she moves, however, she hears rumors about Witchwood Hollow, a dark, macabre forest that’s supposedly haunted by a witch who kidnaps people. As time goes on, she starts to see that there is more to the rumors surrounding the forest, and that she might just be dancing on the edge of danger. Lady Clifford is a woman who had been chased off as a witch. Desperate for companionship, she meets a man named Andrew, with whom she falls in love. However, when he takes their daughter and leaves, she experiences sorrow that can only be healed by her lover’s return. In this twisted, fantastical novel, Jordan Elizabeth paints a sadistic picture of the clash between past and present as a girl tries to break a curse that had claimed many innocents.

There was a parallel between Lady Clifford and Honoria. While both had loved ones, Lady Clifford lost her love, and as such, launched a self-destructive spell that entrapped many victims. Honoria, on the other hand, had managed to open up, to find people who loved her. They were both similar in their pain, but Honoria refused to drown in despair. Eventually, it was that strength that led Lady Clifford to her own happy ending. It was like a fairytale in that essence. Jordan Elizabeth’s characters were wonderful; they entered the pages with unforgettable story lines and themes that made them even more beloved than they already were. What’s more, Jordan Elizabeth shows that tragedy may play an influential part in our lives, but it by no means defines who we are.
