In Evasion: Do No Harm by Susan Jean Ricci, Remi Roundwater lives a comfortable life as the spouse of physician Dr. Marshall Wagner. However, her marriage is not quite what she had hoped for, as her husband is becoming more evasive when it comes to intimacy. Turns out, Marshall is cheating on his unsuspecting wife. When Marshal's indecent affair is about to be exposed, Remi becomes the victim of abduction by his enemies. Emotionally hurt by her husband’s betrayal, she relies upon her Shoshone ancestral instincts to brave the danger.

Set in San Diego, California, Susan Jean Ricci’s Evasion: Do No Harm is a novella deftly written in clear-cut prose and a straightforward narrative without unnecessary frills to fully deliver the story in a short read. It has drama, suspense, humor, romance, and even a small dose of mystery. Protagonist Remi Roundwater is easy to root for-beautiful, sweet, and graceful. That said, she made a big mistake when she married Marshall despite her parents’ disapproval. However, her father, Chief Roundwater, has a piece of great advice regarding the matter: “Mistakes are the foundation of progress. One either disregards them and sinks into the quicksand of misery, or forges upward on the mountain of knowledge.” Without spoiling the story, I also found another character, Mrs. Phells, admirable with the actions that she took to set things right. It’s engrossing from start to finish and there's a couple of good twists in the plot. All in all, this is a quick and entertaining read.
