Eventually Evie is a chick lit novel written by Cat Lavoie. Evie is seeing life in brilliant color flashing all around her. Her cousin’s toddler son is funny and committed to pranking each and every doting relative at Evie’s Aunt Pina’s family dinners. Her cousin Bee is filled with pride and excitement over her engagement to Mike and has the family oohing and aahing over a picture on her cellphone of the ring she would be getting. No one seems to even remember that it’s Evie’s birthday, so much else is going on. It’s kind of like the classic statement for Evie’s life. Her career as an interior decorator is a shambles since she had to close down her studio. Matilda, Evie’s best friend, an organizer who had shared the office space with her, is happily living with her lover and their cat, and her business is a major success. And Evie? She’s working at home in her sweats, doing email and live chat support for a courier business. Her love life is all but non-existent, and Bee’s digs at seating her at the single women’s table at her wedding aren’t helping her cope. Only her nonna has her back at this point. That’s never changed. But when will it be Evie’s turn?

Cat Lavoie’s humorous romance novel, Eventually Evie, is a well-written and riotous romp about a young woman whose life seems to be passing her by. Granted the meatballs Franke manages to lob into her face when she’s not looking means she hasn’t entirely disappeared, and she still does have one wealthy, if difficult, client from her days as an active interior designer, but a life spent eating ice cream, answering angry customer emails, and seeing love and life go on all around her is hard to deal with sometimes. Evie’s story will resonate with anyone who's seen their well-plotted life plans go awry, and her humor and resilience will go a long way to inspire many of them. Lavoie’s plot is quirky, unpredictable and loads of fun and her characters are nuanced and fully dimensional. I enjoyed spending time in Evie’s world. Eventually Evie is highly recommended.
