My inner child gave me a big thumbs up when I saw Everybody Pees! (Everybody Potties!) by Justine Avery appear on the RF review list. I’m certain this is the kind of book I would have relentlessly hounded my mother to read every night at storytime before bed. The title sums up the story, making it clear that every living thing on the planet needs to pee. It makes the topic very accessible, which will be very valuable for young minds learning about the way their bodies work. Alongside this, the book puts a big smile on your face because who doesn’t like a little toilet humor? I had a very healthy laugh as I read the book.

Although written for very young children, there’s a very pleasing rhythm to the words. It uses the right balance of short memorable phrases and rhyming sentences, meaning children will quickly learn the story, allowing them to participate in a read-along. So as an educational book, it also ticks this box too. Like all books for young readers, I have to give big props to Naday Meldova’s illustrations as they really bring the words to life. The simplified figures are colorful, cute, and friendly. Most characters are depicted in the situation of being caught with their pants down while taking a pee. Many have very funny expressions of embarrassment, surprise, or delight. Overall, a very good book for young readers, which I suspect will be enjoyed by adults too, especially if your inner child is anything like mine.

Everybody Pees! Everybody Potties! by Justine Avery is a fun, entertaining children’s book that follows various family members, animals, and other people, all of whom pee. Every page follows somebody or something different, whether it be a grandpa reading the newspaper while peeing, or a fish peeing while swimming through the ocean. Vibrant and amusing, Everybody Pees! uses so many people and animals to emphasize the idea that everybody pees and that it can even be funny at times. Along with rhythmic writing, there are also illustrations on every page that are sure to captivate children. From a monkey eating a banana to a man peeing off the side of a mountain, Everybody Pees! is sure to make children and parents alike laugh out loud.

Justine Avery created a really enjoyable story with Everybody Pees! This is such an easy book, which could make it a great learning tool for early readers, and I think the illustrations are going to want to make them pick it up more than once, inciting giggles and smiles each time. They were such fun to look at and fit perfectly with the text on each page. Children’s books never fail to bring a smile to my face, even as an adult, and Everybody Pees! is another great example of a wonderful book. There isn’t much plot, but the creative illustrations and fun ideas make this book worth a read. I would recommend this book to parents who are looking for a new, hilarious book to read with their young children.
