Expat - Part 1: Growing Up by Raji Abuzalaf is the true story of an American expatriate. The author takes us through a journey of his life chronologically. This volume contains his memories from birth to his growing up years. The author speaks about his life at home, school, his love life and years of growing up as an expatriate. The book has romance, adventure, and music with the experiences of the author narrated in a light manner to make it breezy and playful. The antics of the author in a foreign land will warm your heart.

The book takes us on a great trip. The author speaks about every small experience in his life, right from the start. The narration of incidents and experiences are informal and friendly. It makes readers relate to the incidents and the experiences of the author very well. The author has even managed to share the smallest details with readers. The lessons learned as an expatriate are educational and informative as well. The lyrics in the book reveal the author's passion for music which, according to him, was his constant companion and allowed him to express his dreams, fears, and desires.

The author has captured his growing up years in another country very well. We see the author till he completes his high school in this autobiography. I enjoyed the trip. It is not only informative but it also gives an insight about living in another country. Since it ends at the high school level, I cannot wait to read the next book.
