Fascination is a sizzling romance novella for new adults, written by Kim Brown. Annette was the kind of young woman most guys dreamed of getting to know -- and few ever got to know her. She had long, dark hair, a flawless body and was the perfect height. Annette was a sophomore in college, and grades had never really been an issue for her until her extracurricular activities began to take a toll on her academic performance. Her late night assignations meant a lot less time hitting the books, and it began to show on her test scores. Annette’s mom and dad were warm, supportive people who had been careful to share with her all they could about intimacy between couples and made sure she took measures for protection. What they and few else in her world didn’t realize was that Annette had a fascination with sex. She had little interest in forming a relationship with any of the young men who wanted to get to know her. First dates were plentiful, but second ones were rare, and a third, rarer still -- and by Annette’s own choice. No one seemed to be able to get past her somewhat atypical objectification of the opposite sex.

Kim Brown’s sly and sizzling romance novella for new adults, Fascination, takes a look at a young woman whose appetites and inclinations are decidedly more common in young men, and highlights the disparity in cultural acceptance of the resulting behavior. I loved how she begins her book with the somewhat geeky college student, Timmy, who deconstructs Annette into a shopping list of attractive parts and salivates over the unattainable treasure. This passage leads brilliantly into Annette’s own somewhat parallel story as she objectifies the young men in her life. While society often excuses young men, uttering “boys will be boys” or secretly envying the playboys and frat superstars, young women like Annette are labeled “sluts” or pitied or end up finding themselves in the wrong bed. Brown’s Fascination addresses each of these issues brilliantly in a story that’s steamy yet tasteful. Fascination is highly recommended.
