Felix has only one ambition in his life. He would love to become a superhero, wielding unimaginable powers and saving the world. He even has a loyal companion in his cat Eagle, whose secret wish is to be able to fly. Unfortunately, neither of them has even an indication of a superpower. Whenever they try to engage in an epic battle with each other, Felix’s father dissuades them, sometimes forcefully. Will they ever fulfill their long-cherished wishes and what happens when they listen to their parents and head off to bed? To find out, read Felix and Eagle Imagine, an illustrated children’s book by Willie Thomas.

This awesome book has an unusual but relatable storyline. At some point or other, everybody aspires to become a superhero or heroine. We can empathize with Felix and Eagle as they fear that their sought-after lifestyle might never come true. Willie Thomas shows how we can become who we want in our dreams. Like Felix and Eagle, we can envision ourselves in our desired roles. I love the way Thomas inspires young readers to keep their dreams alive. Felix and Eagle Imagine by Willie Thomas, with illustration by Nicole Ervin, is a children’s picture book written for three to eight-year-old children. It’s about a little boy named Felix, who dreams of becoming a superhero. Eagle, his cat, on the other hand, dreams of being able to fly. It’s bedtime and Felix’s dad tells them to go to sleep. As soon as they fall asleep, the two dream of flying from cloud to cloud. Then they hear a woman scream down below. Rushing to her aid, they land on the ground and see a man running off with the woman’s purse. Thanks to Felix and Eagle, the purse is returned and the robber lands in jail. A baker thanks them by giving them cinnamon rolls. With their matching capes and boots, they continue helping others and fly back home after fighting with a number of villains. When they wake up, they smile at each other because they know that they can be an ordinary boy and a cat and superheroes too.

Willie Thomas’ Felix and Eagle Imagine is an inspiring children’s story. The title is intriguing and memorable with the name of the protagonists. The main characters should appeal to the target audience because Felix and Eagle are so likable. This is a story of friendship that inspires the use of inventiveness to fulfill one’s dreams. The narrative is easy to follow and is told in rhyme which should help children experience the rhythm of language and expand their imaginations. Beautifully illustrated, the colors and the change of setting are playful and attractive; they certainly add detail and humor to the story. This is a delightful book that nurtures a child’s imagination and is best for reading aloud.

On this night, Felix feels he needs to take to the skies and climb the tallest building to watch over the city and save lives. Instead, he lies on the grass, pondering and staring into the night sky. Next to Felix's head is his green buddy. His name is Eagle, and he also dreams of soaring through the dark skies like a bat. But he can't fly because he happens to be a big cat in spats. Felix and Eagle's wishful thinking is cut short by Felix's dad, who approaches to remind them that it is finally time to sleep. Soon Felix and Eagle will be in a world where jumping from cloud to cloud will be possible, even without jetpacks, and flying won't be a problem, even without wings. What quests will these two friends take on? Will they succeed in saving the day in a city where crime abounds? Read Felix and Eagle Imagine by Willie Thomas to find out.

While kids are busy imagining a world of their own, they also create endless possibilities of how things can be. Willie Thomas brings his imagination to life, clips us on the shoulder like an eagle, and takes us to places where attaining seemingly impossible triumphs is just ordinary. The anticipation for what is yet to unfold builds very early in the story, and we develop a deep connection with Felix and Eagle. You can't help but cheer for the hope and determination that shine through their eyes. Deep inside they know they are the superheroes the city desperately needs. The text is simple and easy to understand, with only a few sentences on each page. I recommend Felix and Eagle Imagine to anyone searching for a simple yet gripping adventure to capture children's attention. Children above the age of seven can read the book independently, and parents can read it to the younger set.
