Flowers for Sara by Davina Kotulski is a touching story of a woman finding her way in life. Dani is a twenty-five-year-old lesbian who is working on her first book. Dani struggles with writing and is well known for being sidetracked by her sexual exploits. Veronica, Dani’s closest friend, finds her lack of commitment and her one-night stands annoying. Veronica and Dani made a bet. If Dani loses, she must travel to Venice to write her book. In Venice, Dani meets Sara, a tour guide who is fixated on Venetian history. Dani has no trouble seducing attractive women, but Sara is not interested in Dani’s advances. Sara intrigues Dani while also teaching her about the past of the Jewish ghetto in Venice.

Flowers for Sara is engaging and entertaining. Davina Kotulski took me on a roller coaster ride of intrigue, romance, humor, and history. Davina painted a picture of Venice, and it was easy to visualize and be part of it. The story is full of action and fast-paced. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, and I could not put it down. With all the twists and surprises, I could never predict what would happen next. The characters were excellently developed and authentic. Dani was my favorite. She is full of life, despite discrimination and heartbreak. Dani has many flaws, and that makes her relatable. I enjoyed her journey of self-discovery. The story is beautifully written, with a great plot twist that I did not see coming. The ending was unexpected and fitting.
