Forgotten Dragons is a work of fiction in the historical, action, and adventure sub-genres, and was penned by author Dai Pryce. The work is intended for the general reading audience and forms part of the Chronicles of Prince Madoc series. Set in the ancient formation of the country of Wales, we find ourselves in the twelfth century where the heroic Owain ap Gruffudd, the first Prince of Wales, has perished. As others position themselves to take the throne, the bright Prince Madoc uncovers a plot on his life that sends him into exile. In the Norse city of Dublin, Madoc plans his return, but the future may not be what he’d expected when it arrives.

Author Dai Pryce has crafted a very engaging and fascinating work of historical fiction with plenty of detail, accuracy, and artistic thrills added to offer its readers. As a Welsh person myself, I was delighted to delve into a history that I remember from my own schooldays, and see it brought to life with dynamic characterization and expressive dialogue which puts true emotion into the facts and figures of the time period. The author creates an austere and cut-throat mood with the attention to detail in the plots and suspicions winding around Madoc, setting up a tense climactic ending with strong lexical and descriptive choices to bring both the setting and the villains of the piece to life. Overall, I would highly recommend Forgotten Dragons to fans of British and Welsh history, high drama, and for historical fiction readers everywhere.
