Author Biography

I am a Canadian author residing in the Greater Toronto Area. "From One Age to Another: Poems on Longing, Love, Loss, Betrayal, and Resiliency: Reaching back 50 years from 2020" is my first book of poetry.
I chose the pen name (L. Zieanna) since I was concerned about what family and friends might think of specific material in my poems. Naturally, I have not posted an author photo either for the same reason. To my way of thinking, there is no point in expressing the personal if it has to be censored. So, in the interest of authenticity and freedom of expression, I felt some anonymity was the best solution. The tag line: Finding Poetry in the Commonplace, came into being because the issues and emotions I write about are universal and therefore common to many. I also find much beauty in the commonplace, which I hope is reflected in my writing. There are no lofty sentiments here, just down-to-earth expressions reflecting everyday issues of the heart.
This particular collection of poems was assembled in the aftermath of a betrayal. I had saved many poems over the years and when I suddenly began producing many more, in the wake of a recent heartbreak, I thought surely there was abundant material here that others could relate to.

From One Age to Another by L. Zieanna is a poetry collection of poems penned over a span of fifty years. The book is divided into two parts; The Early Poems and The Later Poems. The Early Poems segment covers poems written between 1968 and 1973. Laced with a wistful sense of nostalgia, The Early Poems take you back to your adolescent years, a time of first crushes, first love, first kiss, and much more. There is a yearning for mutual love seeping through the pages while also depicting the downsides of heartbreak and one-sided love. In The Later Poems segment, the author focuses on the themes of loss, betrayal, and the resilient spirit of the human heart, which continues to long for love despite countless heartbreaks and dysfunctional relationships.

A poetry collection depicting the two contrasting stages of a person's love life, From One Age to Another is a moving book that poetry lovers should not miss out on. L. Zieanna lays bare her soul with some beautifully written poetic verses that strike a chord in your heart and take you on a journey of a life lived through longing, love, loss, betrayal, and resiliency. Each poem feels personal and authentic in a way so that you can't help but relate to anecdotes from your own life. Apart from looking back in hindsight through the different aspects of one's love life, The Later Poems segment also portrays the impact the global COVID-19 pandemic had on relationships in general. I thoroughly enjoyed From One Age to Another and highly recommend it.
