From The Archives: A Collection of Short Stories is a unique and compelling insight into five women mentioned in the Bible. Kitty Arceneaux provides an unprecedented view of these women’s lives and their contribution to history. Not just your typical Bible story, Kitty explores the joy, fear, and many other emotions pivotal characters Hagar, Rahab, Jehosheba, Yael, and Mary may have experienced. We share the anxiety and hope that Hagar goes through on her journey to motherhood and Rahab’s courage as she watches the walls of her city fall around her. We’re also introduced to lesser-known women such as Jehosheba, whose quick thinking saved the future king of Judah, and the rare bravery of the female warrior Yael. Few women are mentioned by name in the Bible, and those who are have played a prominent role during their previously unexplored lives.

As a Christian, I have always been fascinated by women in the Bible and felt that there wasn’t enough information about them. We are half of the population after all, so where are our stories? Kitty Arceneaux has delivered and shown me that although scarce, their stories are marvelous and far-reaching. I loved her insight into their emotions and the decisions they made. Her unique spin on giving a voice and backstory to these women is fascinating. The stories are written for a younger audience and are relaxed and informal. From The Archives is a wonderful read for anyone interested in women in the Bible and their place in God’s kingdom.
