Billy Campbell is a unique individual. Cloned and genetically manipulated, he is virtually identical to his father except for two things: he isn't homosexual, and the genetic enhancements to ensure this made him blind, but opened other abilities to him. These abilities start to manifest as he's preparing for a five-year plan to take over his father's successful international business. Fortunately, it makes him a better businessman and helps him form good, solid relationships with others. Unfortunately, it gets the attention of others who don't want to see these abilities come back to mankind - ever.

The truth of man's unknown history is that the abilities Billy has are akin to our Cro-Magnon progenitors, and those abilities made man violent and psychotic. When the Galactic Council discovered our violent race twenty thousand years ago, they stopped the Tower of Babel by placing a suppressor on Mt. Everest to subdue these abilities. Over time, two groups formed to oversee the progress of mankind: one to improve humanity by making sure the suppressor works, and the other to remove it and return us to our violent state. Future Man - The Accidental Prototype by Ralph Richardson is the tale of Billy's journey of discovery and the future evolution of man, either to the stars, or to their destruction.

Future Man - The Accidental Prototype is a sci-fi tale that really speaks of hope for humanity. All sci-fi asks the basic question of what it means to be human, and Ralph Richardson explores this question by bringing in abilities and philosophy from other religions and even New Age beliefs, which most of us are familiar with. Billy's journey from a businessman to a powerful telepath reflects all of our struggles with identity, and what impact we want to have on the world around us. It's a wonderful tale of discovery and redemption, with many great lessons on what it truly means to be a good person. This is a good tale of hope and redemption.
