Ghost Hunters: Spirit Fire is the third book in the Ghost Hunters series by Susan McCauley. There have been a series of mysterious fires in the French Quarter of New Orleans, drawing the attention of twelve-year-old Alex Lenard, an Apprentice Psychic Investigator in training, and his mentor and former OPI officer Frank Martinez on the case. Upon arriving at the crime scene, Alex senses the distressed spirit of a little girl named Alice. As he delves deeper into the investigation, alongside his cousin Hannah and best friend Jason, he uncovers a tantalizing mystery dating back to the Great Fire of New Orleans in 1788. However, to free the spirit of Alice and protect the people of the city, he must first learn to control his psychic abilities and face the malevolent spirits trapped alongside Alice.

If fast-paced action-adventure stories are your jam, Ghost Hunters: Spirit Fire is just the book for you. Susan McCauley's third installment of the Ghost Hunters series follows Alex and his friends as they embark on a mission to solve the mystery of unexplained fires popping up around the French Quarter neighborhood of New Orleans, causing much damage to people and property. The plot is full of mystery and intrigue, keeping you guessing till the last pages of the book. Alex's gradual growth in controlling his powers feels earned, and you find yourself rooting for him as he overcomes numerous obstacles to achieve that. His relationships with Frank, Hannah, Jason, Mrs. Wilson, and Onyx were some of my favorite parts of the book. Recommended to middle-graders and young adults alike.
