Ghosts of Grief Hollow by Shawn Burgess follows the story of Brooks Raker and his friends as they try to survive the strange happenings in Harper Pass. They thought their nightmares were over, but they were wrong. Margo Combs was back and not the same, there was a stranger seen in the town, and talk of the mysterious witch Lady Zuuva was enough to make Brooks, Tina, Alyssa, Tee, and others feel something wasn’t right. They believed Detective Holt could help them, but he had issues of his own. The Interim Police Chief was struggling like the rest of them. A missing officer, missing people, and the strange occurrences in Grief Hollow were enough to keep Holt awake at night. With the darkness consuming them from every corner, can they all make it out of this terror alive?

You seldom come across genuine paranormal thrillers these days, and novels like Ghosts of Grief Hollow are a rare gem. I had a dreadful feeling in the pit of my stomach from the very first chapter and the encounter with the girl. Shawn Burgess kept that feeling there until the end. I was focused on the story yet terrified of what would happen next. Detective Holt’s character was fantastic. He was well-rounded, exceptionally crafted, and made to be relatable. The twists and turns were scarily realistic, and the atmosphere building made me feel like I was right there next to these characters. The story was outstanding and deserved all my attention. The ending, though, was something else. I loved the intensity and the action. Highly recommended to fans of Anne Rice.
