They teach and train at the karate dojo they own jointly, spend time with their grandchildren, are building a Japanese garden in their back yard, and often take long walks in the woods with their husky, Blue. The co-authored children’s book is their first together and is based on their experiences with their own grandchildren. Currently they are working on their next book which is definitely not going to be a children’s book.

Girls Gone Great by Carolyn B. Berg and J. Drew Brumbaugh comprises a number of well written, short children’s fables that have been compiled together. The first of the fables is about a young girl who goes off for a walk in the woods. Her family also gets lost in the woods while they look for her. It’s up to the little girl to find and lead her family home. The second fable is about a young athlete who enters a contest to win a trip for her parents so that they can go on a vacation together. Even though the contest is dangerous and the odds are against her, she is still inspired to win.

The third fable is about a girl who wanders off to find her dad and uses everything that he taught her to achieve this. The fourth fable is about a girl who reads books and brings the character of a book to life to help cure her mom of an illness she has. The fifth fable is about a girl who learns what it really means to be a princess. The last two fables are about a girl who learns that her actions have consequences and another girl who helps a creature find a balance in life.

These aren't exactly your normal run of the mill fables like the old tortoise and the hare fable, but they have their own modern and magical twist to them. This children’s story book of fables is great for kids and teaches them different morals and lessons with each individual story; lessons that are useful in life and inspire hope for those who need it. This book puts the magic back into kids’ lives.
