Seal Cove is a quiet town in Nova Scotia where Michael Keating works as a marine biologist, studying seals. Lately, there has been a stir caused by dead seals and sharks washing up onto the shore. What is so strange is that these animals are apparently being eaten by an unknown large sea creature. Then one morning after a huge storm, the residents find a massive amphibian-like creature lifeless on the shore. Not sure exactly what they have found, the marine biologist and townspeople move the creature, labeled a Globster, to the local swimming pool to keep it intact. Meanwhile, Margaret Gregg, an elderly resident of Seal Cove, is wondering what happened to her husband who had left early in the morning to go fishing and never returned. Things began to get weirder when Keating’s son discovers a finger on the beach where the mysterious Globster was found. What is this creature that washed up on shore, and are the people of Seal Cove in danger?

Divitto Kelly has done a wonderful job of creating a classic horror story in Globster that involves an iconic deadly creature that is after the people of Seal Cove. It has the slow buildup of strange occurrences with a dash of comic relief to make it easily liked and readable. The book is also filled with a group of very interesting and realistic characters who were written very well. I definitely found the overall plot of the book intriguing for the simple fact that it’s a story but you never know. Something like that could happen. How much do we really know about the oceans and what is on the bottom? With global warming, who knows what might be released as the polar ice caps begin to melt? Globster is a book I would recommend to my fellow horror-loving readers.
