Gloria and Mrs Tinkelbaum by Jocelyne Turbett revolves around nine-year-old Gloria who is unhappy with her family's move to Vermont. The girls there find her too boyish and the boys make fun of her. She finds it difficult to adjust to the new surroundings and it's at that time she meets Mrs Tinkelbaum, a widow. Gloria slowly starts becoming her friend and helping her run the farm. Mrs Tinkelbaum is more comfortable with animals than humans. Gloria finds out that her Dad is planning to force Mrs Tinkelbaum to sell the farm to a mining company. Will Mrs Tinkelbaum and Gloria be able to save the farm?

The story is cute. It highlights the importance of living in a green and pollution-free environment. The story is simple and the descriptions are detailed, making the story come alive for readers. Children will enjoy reading this book. All the characters are well portrayed and the author captures the joys of living in a farm nicely and in an engaging manner. A good story that highlights the importance of a green environment.
