Seventeen-year-old Daniel Grimm still grieves the loss of almost his entire family to a tragic road accident ten years earlier. Daniel has problems at school, where only his best friends, Logan and Macy, support and understand him. He lives with his aunt, Cass, and she protects him relentlessly. There is an unsolved secret in Daniel's life. Once very close to his family, Daniel's godfather, Miguel Mortiz, is not in touch with him anymore. While visiting his family's gravestone, Daniel sees a stranger on a hill. Intrigued, Daniel suspects that he has accidentally seen his long-lost godfather. Having more questions than answers, he starts his search for Miguel with the help of Logan and Macy. The revealed truth about Miguel turns Daniel's world upside down. Godfather Death, M.D. by Jacob Devlin is for young adult fans of fantasy, magical realism, and family drama novels.

Despite the gloomy undertones, Jacob Devlin's Godfather Death, M.D. is an exciting read with captivating elements of suspense. Divided into three parts, the book is perfectly edited but has some profane language and touches on difficult topics. The author thoroughly explores the stages of grief and how they affect us. Jacob warns that the price of the denial of grief can be heavy. There are several very well-developed characters. Sometimes, Daniel seems overly curious and stubborn, but he can learn from his mistakes. His character is realistic, relatable, and inspiring. Miguel is another brilliantly defined, complex character. The dynamics between him and Daniel are the main driving force of the narrative. Jacob offers us many surprising and dramatic twists in the plotline. Godfather Death, M.D. will resonate with those dealing with losing a loved one and seeking a source of strength to move forward.
