In C.A. Larmer's latest episode of the Sleuths of Last Resort detective series, intriguingly titled Good Girls Don't Drink Vodka, the gang's back together but it's not for the clinking of champagne. Tragedy strikes as Sir George Burlington is found dead in his home and the members of the Sleuths of Last Resort Detective Agency come together to pay homage for the final time to the man that brought them together. It is at this point that matters go sideways. What looks like a natural death suddenly becomes a murder case and the prime suspect is the last person our heroes would expect. Kila, Merry, Earle, Martin, and Frankie Jo must once again put their best sleuthing skills to work if they are to prove that their friend, Verity Vine, is innocent of the crime. They must do this while facing their personal demons and staying out of the way of Detective Inspector Morgan who has an axe to grind with them.

The storyline is exceptionally well written and presented. For a detective series, the clues are difficult to piece together except if you're ready to apply yourself intellectually and this is exactly what I am looking for in a mystery series that already has a couple of previous tales to boot. The character development ties in nicely with the previous books, making it easier for fans of the series to effortlessly follow this story while it is uncomplicated enough for new adherents to start with. The subplots are just as interesting as the main story with the added advantage of endearing each of the characters to a reader. Kila's effort at getting to the truth behind his sister's murder is a perfect example of this. His investigation runs like the separate strands of a spider's web, leading me to second-guess myself every time I felt I was on the right track. C.A. Larmer outdoes herself with Good Girls Don't Drink Vodka, a terrific crime and mystery novel.
