Anything worth having is worth the wait. However, patient waiting is difficult. Araba visits her grandmother and learns the critical lesson of patient waiting. Nanette Dompreh's Grandma, It’s Raining Mangoes! helps children understand that waiting is part of life. Since we have to wait so often, it is important to teach our children not only how to wait but how to wait patiently. Araba’s grandmother taught her that waiting patiently “means waiting as long as it takes without getting upset.” Araba has fun with her two cousins at Grandma’s house. It is hard to wait patiently, but Araba learns the secret to successful patient waiting from her grandmother. The key to patient waiting is to stay busy while you wait. That makes the time fly by much faster.

Who doesn’t enjoy a visit with their grandmother? A major plus for Araba as she visits her grandma is that her cousins are also visiting. Together they have fun and learn important life lessons. Grandma, It’s Raining Mangoes! is wonderfully illustrated by Saturncube. Nanette Dompreh writes in an easy-to-understand manner. She teaches a major life lesson without seeming to teach. Children will learn the value of patiently waiting without realizing they are learning. They will think they are just having fun. As a parent, it is important to teach our children facts as well as life skills. Various fruit trees surround grandmother’s house. Spend time discussing what fruits your children like and why. What fruit have they not tried that they would like to try? Take your child to the store’s produce department and let them pick out the fruits they would like to try.
