Great-Great-Grandad McHooter's Big Surprise 90th Birthday Party (Snozzeralls Series Book 2) by Karen Henton concerns a family of Snozzeralls living inside the face of a human being. These are the McHooters. Snozzy McHooter Junior, Snozzerlina Ballerina, and Snozzerella Bella Boo are busy preparing for a surprise birthday party for their Great-Great-Grandad McHooter. Streamers are strung and food and cake are laid out. Uncle McHooter Tooter is preparing to entertain everyone by playing his bagpipes. I wonder what the human face is doing while all this excitement is happening inside. I’m sure young readers will wonder, too, with a giggle or two. It’s going to be a grand affair, but Great-Great-Grandad McHooter doesn’t know anything – yet. He will soon.

Karen Henton’s picture book, Great-Great-Grandad McHooter's Big Surprise 90th Birthday Party, is the latest in the series. The plot follows the young McHooters as they prepare for the big family birthday bash. Like all children, they squabble but manage to get things done – eventually. There is a lot of fun and laughter in their actions, both for the young McHooters and the young readers enjoying this book. The illustrations are subtle and subdued, but add an interesting view into the life of a family living inside a human face. The story is imaginative and sometimes silly, but it’s also educational as it teaches young readers some of the intricate parts of the human face. With a Scottish lilt to the story, there are some interesting words used, like Great-Great-Grandad’s wallies (false teeth). The strongest message in this story is the importance of family and family events, like a ninetieth birthday party.
