Greetings!! My Name is Slim Jim!! written by Pamela Dawn and illustrated by Anna Hoffman is about a doll made for a young girl, Pamma, by her great aunt. Pamma and Slim Jim, the narrator, live on a farm. Slim Jim is a peculiar-looking doll that can change colors and talk to other creatures, such as butterflies and a dog. One day, Pamma and Slim Jim go for a walk and see some boys catching polliwogs. Pamma tells them to stop, without much success, but then Slim Jim talks to the boys’ dog, who barks and jumps in the creek, which encourages them to put back the polliwogs. The boys explain they were catching the polliwogs because lights and the sound of bells coming from the water made them think the polliwogs were in danger. They were trying to save them. But Slim Jim tells them the lights and sounds were coming from his friend, the Sparkle Princess, who only appears in clean water.

I enjoyed reading Greetings!! My Name is Slim Jim!! by Pamela Dawn. It’s fun to read and packed with excellent moral lessons for children, although never preachy. The many good lessons for children include an environmental message, the fun of making new friends, and respect for all life. I especially liked this line spoken by Slim Jim: “It doesn’t matter what color I am on the outside, I’m always the same on the inside.” That’s a clear illustration to children that every human being is the same, no matter the color of their skin. The illustrations by Anna Hoffman are beautiful and fit the text perfectly. Although Dawn doesn’t say what age she intends the book for, it’s age-appropriate for those in early elementary grades and younger children who need to have the book read to them. I recommend it to children everywhere, along with their parents and grandparents.

Greetings!! My Name is Slim Jim!! Welcome to My Adventures – Polliwogs and Frogs is a children's picture book by Pamela Dawn. The story follows a doll named Slim Jim, who has awkward features like long legs and arms, a pointed head, and a crooked smile. He might not be the fanciest or the most beautiful doll, but he was made with love, can change colors, and has magical abilities. Francis made Slim Jim for her great-niece Pamma. Slim Jim and Pamma are best friends, and she carries him everywhere she goes. One day, the pair goes to the creek to witness polliwogs turn into frogs, but they find some boys putting the polliwogs into jars. Slim Jim and Pamma immediately intervene to save the little creatures. Join the duo on their rescue mission and find out what happens next.

Greetings!! My Name is Slim Jim!! is a heartwarming and informative tale by Pamela Dawn about a child and her favorite doll. The story raises awareness about environmental protection, keeping water clean, and protecting animals. I liked that the story is told from Slim Jim’s point of view. It is a unique perspective and makes the book entertaining. The story is unpredictable, and it will introduce children to new friends and intriguing characters with cheerful personalities. The illustrations by Anna Hoffman are colorful, bring all the characters and environment to life, and corresponded with the story perfectly. I recommend parents read this book with their children and enjoy the adventure together.

Greetings! My Name is Slim Jim! Welcome to my adventures by Pamela Dawn is based on a doll that the author’s aunt made for her. In the story, Slim Jim lives with Pamma on a farm and goes everywhere with her. On a late spring day, they go for a walk, in search of polliwogs. Sadly, the polliwogs are in danger, and Pamma and Slim Jim try to save them. During the story, Pamma and Slim Jim meet new friends and discover a magical princess who protects the creek.

Pamela Dawn has written a lovely story that will delight children. It is a beautiful tribute to her Aunt Frances who made the doll many years ago. The vibrant pictures accompanying the text were created by Anna Hoffman, and they are certain to catch the young reader’s eye. The story is easy to understand, and many children may relate to a time when they were in a similar situation. Slim Jim is a lovable character and a good companion to Pamma. Many children wish their treasured toys could have life, so personifying the doll will help children’s imaginations to grow. The pictures of a frog’s life cycle add science to the story and could spark an educational discussion about the animals that can be found in and around a creek. Dawn craftily turns a misunderstanding into a friendship and that theme is echoed through the story. Greetings! My Name is Slim Jim! is a good selection for early readers and younger children.

Pamela Dawn’s great-aunt made her a rag doll many years ago. Pamela named the doll Slim Jim. Greetings!! My Name Is Slim Jim!! is a story about Pamma and his adventures. When Slim Jim first joined Pamma’s family, he was afraid he would not be accepted. He did not look like the other dolls. Slim Jim was scared and shy. However, he quickly became Pamma’s favorite doll, and they went everywhere together. One day, they went to the creek where many polliwogs lived. Three boys were catching the polliwogs in a glass jar. This angered Pamma and Slim Jim. Together, they challenged the boys. Read this book to learn what special visitors came to the creek. Also, your child will learn about protecting our water systems. This book is a great introduction to conservationism.

Slim Jim and Pamma are great friends. They even keep secrets together. Pamma spends much time with Slim Jim. In Pamela Dawn’s children’s book, Greetings!! My Name Is Slim Jim!! your child will enjoy reading about Pamma's and Slim Jim’s special adventures. As a parent, you can use this book to teach about being the new child in a school or neighborhood. Teaching your child about caring for our environment is also important; this book will help you do that. You can also use this book to talk to your child about accepting others, even if they look different. I recommend you read this book with and to your child as you discuss the abovementioned issues. The drawings are wonderful. Your child will enjoy this book and might even want a Slim Jim of their own.
