I once read that grief and love are forever intertwined, and this vibrant poetry collection written by Jerry Lovelady addresses the discomforting truth and more. Grief and Her Three Sisters is divided into four parts. Whether the reader is mourning the tragic loss of a loved one through death or a heartbreaking separation, each resonant poem in this collection will seep through and strike a chord. Although the central theme it shoulders is grief, Lovelady hints at a little of everything here: the pulsating love in our hearts, the appreciation for those important to us, the life and death in our lungs, the fears, hopes, and dreams lingering in our minds, the monotony and simplicity of everyday living, including the daily dance of Mother Nature we often overlook. And that's just scratching the surface!

As a lover of poetry, I thoroughly enjoyed this collection with all its perceptive depths and summits. It was unquestionably refreshing to read. I marvel at Jerry Lovelady's amazing eye for detail and how he eloquently breathes life into dull topics like boredom! For example, the poem Reflections on a Rooftop poetically narrates the tedious chore of raking the leaves and twigs off his roof. Lovelady's play on words is praiseworthy and easy to digest. The majority of the poems are written in free verse, which I feel only enhances and displays Lovelady's encouragement for personal liberty. Readers will notice tinges and whispers of bold defiance tucked within every line as I did. Each stanza glimmers with swirling brilliance and chromatic insight. This compilation will indeed challenge the way you think and view your life and the world. I find it difficult to narrow down my favorite poems because there are plenty to choose from! Soulful and eye-opening, Grief and Her Three Sisters is top-notch poetry for anyone looking for a compelling read!
