Author Biography

After retiring from business I began looking for historical lessons to apply to today's situations. And I found them. Lots of them. But, unhappily, very few of our leaders seem to know about them. They certainly don't use them. So I created History Speaks Today as a vehicle for spreading the word.

Other writers are welcome to join the project, but so far it's just me, along with the encouragement and inspiation of family -- Carol, our two children, five grandchildren and inputs even from the two oldest great-grandchildren. Often while writing I imagine I'm talking to them.

I've presented one subject (historical lesson) in each of the first four books -- Adamant Aggressors, Immigration, Rise and Decline, Gun Mania. Each follows a format of premise, historical cases, and current application.

I'd love to have your thoughts about this project or any of the books. Or ideas you have for future topics. Just visit the website and let me know.

Gun Mania is a topical work of non-fiction focusing on political implementation and culture and was penned by author Bruce D. Thatcher. Subtitled ‘A New Perspective - What We Must Do to Reduce Shootings, Homicides and Suicides in America’, the work looks at the current climate and the conditions around incidents that happen with regard to firearms and without them, rather than just the idea of getting rid of guns altogether. As we come to recognize that the quick-fix approach to abolishing guns is only the tip of the iceberg, Thatcher explores the social conditions that lead to violent crime and suicide in the first instance, before guns are even involved.

Sociological, political and emotionally intelligent, this is a practical work that explores the deeper considerations that underlie gun culture and the attitudes towards how to ‘fix’ a mislabelled problem. The work is well organized and makes for excellent, coherent reading as author Bruce D. Thatcher moves from exploration to exploration and builds his points well with the use of statistics and historical, cultural information from other cultures. His comparisons are intelligent and fully aware of the worldwide issues surrounding violent crime as well as the close-up problems that people face in daily life in the United States of America today. Overall, Gun Mania delivers exactly what it promises: a brand new perspective that has been learned the hard way and one that will only be resolved when people take more notice of excellent and well-supported ideas like those in this book.
