Gus the Goose and the Silly Rabbits is a fun story set on a farm. Gus is excited when Farmer Brown asks him to watch the baby rabbits while he attends to some wandering cows. The one thing that he is asked to do is not let the baby rabbits out of their cage. Gus has a kind heart and after the baby rabbits plead with him to go out for a walk, he lets them. Unfortunately, the silly little rabbits start running everywhere and catch the eye of a hungry hawk. Gus rounds all of them up but one and must take to the sky to rescue him. Gus now understands why rules need to be followed.

Linda Davis has written an engaging early reader. Gus the Goose and the Silly Rabbits is just right for those readers ready to move on from simple one- and two-word sentences to slightly more complex stories. Gus the Goose and the Silly Rabbits will please anyone who loves farm or animal stories. Linda Davis’s illustrations are bright and colorful, and Gus is full of personality. Kids will cheer Gus on as he rescues the last baby bunny from the hawk. They will also get a subtle lesson about owning up to their mistakes and understand that there are reasons for certain rules. I enjoyed Gus and his barnyard companions. Hopefully, there will be more adventures on Farmer Brown’s farm. Gus the Goose and the Silly Rabbits is a great addition to the early reader shelves.
